Here’s Why it is Important for Kids to Indulge in Unstructured Outdoor Play

In summer camp Fremont, children are provided with plenty opportunities to imbibe essential life skills through outdoor activities.

While it is imperative for a child to attend the scheduled classes, it is equally important to let kids indulge in free outdoor play. So what exactly is a free outdoor play? It is that time when an outdoor activity is not planned, and the kids are allowed to venture in the environment on their own. This serves as an excellent means of exploring the world around them. Of course, one needs to take care of the safety of the kids. But then, allowing them to understand their environment and create their own little adventures goes a long way in boosting their self confidence and prepping them up for the future challenges. At summer camp Fremont organized by Riverdales After School, kids are given ample time to engage in such activities.

Here’s a quick overview of why it is important to let children experience such unstructured outdoor play:

Aids in Decision Making

Such outdoor activities help children to discover new interests, explore their potential, and even go beyond their limits. Of course, while they do all this, the risk factor is high, but then risk is not always bad. There are positive risks too, which can assist a child to imbibe the life skills of properly assessing the situation, understanding the consequences, and make the right choices. All in all, it hones the skills of critical thinking and decision making.

Accelerates Brain Development

When children are asked to play without any intervention from parents and coaches, they start working together to create new games and new rules. They also develop new friendships and understand the essence of team spirit. Such interactions help their brains to develop skills for managing difficult situations.

Enhances confidence

There are certain things which can be learnt only through experience. Irrespective of whether the children succeed or fail, what they do learn is to push their limits and work beyond their comfort zone. This vastly helps in increasing self confidence.

Fremont summer camps for kids

Summer camp fremont
This is to let you know that our son, Ted, had a wonderful time at the Summer camp Fremont organized by Riverdales After School. When we picked him up from the event, the first thing he told us was that he would want to attend this camp every year! What made us even happier was that he has emerged as a more disciplined child, and takes special care of his younger sister. We are really glad to see this positive change in him! Thank you so much to all the faculties and camp counsellors! And oh, did I say that he still keeps singing the camp songs while bathing!

Best Summer camps for kids in Fremont, CA

So which is that one thing that makes summer camps an instant hit with the kids?

It’s undoubtedly the outdoor activities!

While such activities promise lots of fun and entertainment for the children, they also help them to imbibe the skills of perseverance, resilience, team spirit, optimism, self-control, and many more.

Here’s a brief insight on some of the life skills picked up by kids at the Fremont summer camp:

1.      Take Risks

Risks have the potential of making one aware of his/her strengths and those of others and the nature at large. When kids indulge in games at STEM summer camp, they take risks, and this in turn helps them to learn how to assess situations, make judgments, and undertake intelligent decisions.

2.      Honing critical thinking skills

When kids stumble and hurt their knees, what they actually learn is to understand why they landed up in this situation. Such critical thinking can be honed only through experience.

3.      Undertake Responsible Decisions

There’s no denying that every risk will have a consequence. However, it is important that children learn to embrace risk, so that they can explore their strengths & weaknesses, uncover their passion, and eventually take responsible decisions.

4.      Leadership

When a child is asked to lead a group in a bike ride, then it instantly boosts his/her self confidence. They feel that they are being given responsibility for their own actions as well as for others.

5.      Problem-solving

Whenever kids fail in a particular exercise, they learn something new from it. They understand that there are numerous ways to solve a problem. This encourages them to face the challenge and keep on trying until they become successful. At times, they may hurt themselves, but their inner confidence and toughness will push them to go beyond their limits and encourage them to keep going until they reach their destination.

Outdoor play aids in cognitive development and fosters creativity. The skills that children pick up while indulging in adventure sports not only help them in their school life, but benefit them throughout their lifetime. Once again, my son Jacob had an awesome time at the Fremont summer camp! The reason why it took me so long to write this note to you was because all this while he was telling me stories about the fun he had at the camp! Further, his STEM scores have also improved! I was really worried about his performance in STEM subjects, but you guys did an amazing job! He specifically tells me that earlier he used to find these subjects boring, but now he looks forward to learning the lessons. The entire credit goes to the faculty team of Riverdales After School! Why is Summer Camp so Popular?

This question comes up a lot. If a child can just laze around and do whatever they please all summer, why would they want to go to summer camp? In reality, there is good reason for the increasing popularity of summer camp. In a summer camp children of all ages are given the opportunity to explore themselves and their environment in constructive and fun ways. A good program, such as those offered by Riverdales Summer Camp  in Fremont, California, benefits students in two major ways: by activating their minds in a way that excites them, and by being (sometimes covertly) highly educational.

Exciting Themes and Activities for All Ages
In separating groups by age or grade, popular summer camps allow children the most personalized and direct activities. A sixth grade student and a child in kindergarten just don’t learn the same way. As much fun as Bob the Builder Lego sets are (and they are, trust me), they just aren’t as appealing to a teenager. A good summer camp personalizes each camp to the needs of the age group.

By interacting with students at their own level of understanding, children gain insight into the social behaviors of others, and see what positive social learning is. The rewards of a supportive group of peers go beyond the joy expressed on their faces; it actually instills confidence in their everyday activities. By providing themes for learning which the kids actually enjoy, they are much more receptive to learning; in fact, they hardly realize they are being taught anything.

 Fun Education
This is the main aim of a fun education: to increase a child’s receptiveness to education by making it enjoyable. How many times have you had to drag yourself through a boring powerpoint presentation, only to realize a week later that you don’t remember a single slide of it? It is no different for children. Unless they are enjoying what they learn or finding it useful, it will go right out the window once something “cooler” comes along.

At Riverdales summer camp, our programs are individualized to each child’s likes, ensuring that they have a blast and remember every moment. They are also highly educational - be sure to have that pen and paper ready so they can teach you something new. If you are in the Fremont, Ca area, contact us for an interview today!

Here’s How Summer Camps Help In Boosting Your Child’s Leadership Skills

Fremont summer camp conducted by Riverdales After School is an excellent opportunity for kids to acquire essential life skills.

For some, summer camps are only a means of keeping their kids engaged during the vacation. In fact, kids also participate in these events, not to become leaders, but because of the fun and excitement quotient. However, the reality is that these events render a perfect setting for your child to hone his/her talent whilst imbibing invaluable life skills. Leadership building is one of the skills which are acquired and nurtured at these events. All camps help in boosting leadership skills in some way or the other. While some may focus on sports as a skill-building catalyst, others may encourage social action. The good part is that these camps impart both implicit and explicit trainings for developing these skills.

Here’s how a Fremont summer camp can help in enhancing your child’s leadership abilities:

1.      Through sports & play

When on the sports field, kids pick up the skills of taking the lead. They also learn how to become resilient and keep trying until they reach their goal. This form of implicit learning enables children to imbibe the attributes of becoming a leader as well as supporting team mates.

2.      Take initiative

Whether it’s by cleaning their own sleeping quarters without being asked, or assisting team mates in their daily tasks, or even voluntarily contributing their talent for a show, kids learn how to take initiative.

3.      Contribute towards society

It is during these programs that kids learn that they have an important role to play in making a better society and environment, and that nothing concrete will happen, if they simply sit back and wait for someone else to take the initiative. In other words, it helps them to emerge as good and responsible citizens of the country, a highly essential attribute required to thrive in the present era.

Studies reveal that after attending Fremont summer camp, kids exhibit an increased level of emotional intelligence and self-confidence, the two primary attributes of a good leader. Riverdales After School regularly organizes summer camps, which provides hands-on learning opportunities for all kids, irrespective of their background or abilities, thereby making them fully adept to move ahead with confidence.

Thank You Riverdales for giving my child an experience of a lifetime!

Last summer, my daughter, Kathy, attended the STEM Summer Camp organized by Riverdales After School. After returning from the trip, Kathy has been constantly telling us about the great fun she had during the camp. When we hear her stories, we feel proud and elated that we made a right decision of sending her to the event. Not only that, we have also noticed a stark difference in her behaviour. Apart from developing an interest towards science subjects, she also seems to have undertaken a more disciplined approach towards education and life. We extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the institution for bringing out such positive outcomes. You all are really doing a great job out there! Kudos to the entire team of Riverdales!

Preparing Your Child for an Exciting Time at Summer Camp Fremont

Organized by Riverdales, the Summer Camp Fremont offers an exciting, entertaining, and a learning experience for kids.

Summer camps play an important role in the overall growth process of a child. For most kids, it is a fun and once in a lifetime experience, memories of which linger in their minds throughout their lives. However, it may be worrisome for some parents, especially, if their children are attending it for the first time. With little or no communication during the tenure of the camp, it is best to prepare the kids for everything they are likely to encounter, whilst ensuring that they are mentally prepared for it. So, here is a list of tips that would ensure that your child has a memorable & fun-filled experience at Fremont Summer Camp.

Familiarizing the Conditions

For some children, it might feel overwhelming to participate in a summer camp, as they would be staying away from their parents. Familiarizing them with the conditions of the camp may help soothe their nerves and get them excited about the event. Showing DVDs of the camp or letting them interact with other children who have attended Fremont summer camp earlier, seem to be great ideas to make them feel relaxed and geared up.

Packing Right

It is important to pack all their stuff well before time to prevent any last minute hiccups. Comfortable clothes are preferable than the fancy new ones. Further, important things such as medicines should be packed where it is easiest to reach them. Giving a lot of money or other expensive things like jewelry doesn’t sound like a good idea.

Mental Preparation

This is much more important than anything else on the list. The summer camp will prove to be an enjoyable experience, only if the child is not burdened by any mental pressure exerted by the parents. It is essential to let the kids decide what they expect from the camp and let them set their own pace. The camp is as much about learning as it is about having fun.

A summer camp can be a life changing experience for any child. It gives them a brand new perspective of life, particularly if it’s the Summer Camp Fremont organized by Riverdales.
